Latest updates:

(3/10/25) Update

Funding: In October 2024, the City of Milwaukie applied for approximately $1.8 million of additional funding from the Federal Highway Administration, made available through Metro. We anticipate being notified in April 2025 whether we’ll receive some/all of this additional funding.

The Design Phase: The Washington-Monroe Greenway design will continue through the end of 2025. In January and February 2025, the design consultant, Consor, continued work on the design of individual driveway approaches, crosswalks, and stormwater management facilities.

Construction Schedule: We expect construction to begin in Summer 2026.

A Word About the Sidewalks on Monroe Street West of 47th Avenue: We received questions from several residents about why we didn’t include sidewalks along Monroe Street west of 47th Avenue. This sidewalk was removed from the scope due to funding shortages and inflation. If additional funding becomes available, the city will consider adding the sidewalks back to the project to connect the greenway sidewalks to existing sidewalks on Monroe Street.

Next Steps: This spring, city staff will begin phased outreach to individual homeowners along the greenway to notify them of potential right-of-way encroachments in front of their property. Residents along Washington Street can expect to receive a letter by the end of March, followed by residents on Garrett Drive and then Monroe Street. Right-of-way encroachments should be removed prior to construction (anticipated in summer 2026). We will give property owners additional notice prior to construction, too.

Greater Milwaukie Monroe Greenway Updates: Construction has begun on the segment of the greenway east of Linwood Avenue. Clackamas County is managing this project. See the County’s website for more information.
