Naming Policy Survey

Aerial View of Milwaukie Neighborhoods

At the request of City Council, members of the city's Parks and Recreation Board (PARB) and Equity Steering Committee (ESC) formed a subcommittee to update the city’s Naming Policy for best practices and align with city values. The group has met monthly with their staff liaisons since February 2025 to create a Draft Naming Policy for the city. Community input on key areas of the draft policy is now being collected using the survey below until Monday, December 1, 2025.

Your feedback will be used to guide the next discussion at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 with the goal of adopting the policy.

Before you take the survey below, please read through these helpful tips:

  • What is a city Naming Policy? The policy helps establish a more systematic and consistent approach for the naming of city assets which consists of parks, natural areas, recreational facilities, trails, and facilities. The policy is meant to help ensure a fair and transparent naming process; assists in making facilities more easily identifiable and consistent with the character of the neighborhood or area served; reflects Milwaukie’s diverse communities and promotes a sense of belonging for all residents.
  • While this survey focuses on the Draft Naming Policy, there is also a separate Memorial and Donations Policy. Learn more about the reasoning behind this separate policy in the FAQs.
  • Should I review these policies before taking the survey? Reviewing both policies (Draft Naming Policy and Memorial and Donations Policy) is not required but is encouraged for anyone who wants to fully participate in this process.

Thank you for taking the time to weigh in on the policy!
