Milwaukie's Roadmap for Investment

The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) is the city’s big to‑do list for building and upgrading the things that keep Milwaukie running, such as streets, water systems, parks and public buildings. It pulls together community ideas, expert advice and long‑term city goals to figure out which projects matter most and when they should happen.

Because funding and timing don’t always line up, the CIP shows which projects can move forward now and which ones will have to wait until future funding becomes available. It also helps the city combine projects when possible, saving time, money, and construction impacts.

Most importantly, the CIP is a way for the community to see what’s coming, why it matters, and how these investments build a safe, healthy, and thriving city for everyone.

So how does a project get placed in the CIP? Community input guides the CIP, with projects reviewed through multiple public‑comment steps and expert analysis. No project moves forward until its funding is confirmed and adopted in the city’s budget.

If you are interested in digging deeper, check out the Adopted CIP (Fiscal Years 2025-2030). A more detailed explanation about how a project gets placed in it can be found on page 8.

Stay Up to Date on Current Projects

It isn't easy to keep up with all of the CIP projects going on at any given time, but there are some tools available to help.

To get the most up-to-date information, use these tools:

  1. Check out the Projects Page on the city website - Current capital projects are there and include regular updates.
    • Each project includes information about how to sign up to receive updates, usually by email.
  2. Follow the city on Facebook or Instagram.

To learn about current and upcoming projects, try these:

  1. Read the Pilot newsletter that is put into all mailboxes in 97222 or check the latest issue out online.
  2. Subscribe to receive the Co-Pilot digital newsletter, which typically comes out mid-month in between printed issues of the Pilot.

If the city is seeking feedback about specific projects, these tools might be used:

  1. Engage Milwaukie of course! If you register you will get notification when new projects are added.
  2. In-person meetings/open houses. Use the various tools mentioned to learn about these meetings.

Residents might also get contacted directly about a project, if it impacts their property or you are being invited to a special meeting. That might include door hangers, phone calls, emails, etc.

Quick Poll - What are Your CIP Update Preferences?

Please take the quick poll below before you leave this page. The city strives to communicate and engage the community about CIP projects and would love to know how you prefer to receive updates.
