What is Earth Day?
The original Earth Day marked a significant point in America’s environmental history. On April 22, 1970, around 20 million Americans mobilized for a new way forward that increased protections for nature and environmental health. These efforts resulted in new protections which have continued to improve the environment since.
While these actions made significant strides in protecting past, present, and future generations, the climate crisis continues to impact communities around the world, with communities of color, indigenous, youth and elder communities experiencing the greatest impacts. Milwaukie's Climate Action Plan, adopted in 2018, is an effort to slow and adapt to the changing climate and reduce these impacts. To make a difference, we need commitments from community members to take action and help accomplish the city's climate goals.
